It has been through research and personal experience that I had come to understand the power of words. Words spoken have a tremendous amount of power.
Words influence; words create in the recesses of your imagination; and words either build or destroy. Words are very important.
Words shape our lives. They are the most powerful contributors to our personal growth, our belief system, the balance of our feelings and emotions, and well, overall, words shape our branding.
Proverbs 18:21 says: "The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit." -
It is true that many successful people can remember the time their father failed to give affirmation, encouragement and even direction to them as a child. The result of such lack was either over achievement to prove their worth, or underachievement confirming that he was right.
Regardless, the outcome of that child was the result of the power of the father's tongue - spoken words.
Many wives loose their ability to love or pursue a better life due to criticism. Many a husband has left a marriage because of words of disrespect, ungratefulness or criticism. The stories are endless regarding the power of words.
Truth is, sometimes we need to be conscious of the words we speak - both positively and negatively.
I am not the greatest encourager. I have a lot on my mind and to stop to simply encourage is something I have to consciously remind myself and do. My wife, though a very strong woman, always encouraging and loving, aspiring for more, yet could still be further ahead in some areas, had I encouraged her and affirmed her even more.
I’ve done some but not to the degree that could have given her more "life to her step." So I keep improving in this area to love on my wife as well as on my kids.
There are just as many stories of those whose lives have also been influenced and shaped by the right words spoken to them. They have been encouraged, challenged, and comforted with words that made a difference in their lives.
Jesus knew the power of words. He used parables to convey a truth. He used words of forgiveness and mercy. He used words to challenge. He used words to inspire His disciples to miraculous faith. He used words to heal and he used words to challenge others.
He used words (coupled with actions) to influence, direct, and mold the minds of his society. He used words to love and to give life. Not only during his life on earth, but also, his word still transforms our minds and our lives today. God’s word is amazingly powerful.
How about your words? Do they give life? Do they inspire and challenge others to greatness? Do they affirm, encourage and love? Do your words give life?
It’s really your choice. Give life to somebody today with your words. Their tomorrow may depend on it. Words spoken are the most powerful tool on the face of the earth. Without words spoken nothing is created, nothing is contracted, and nothing will ever get done.
Your words are powerful - use them to influence others and lead them in the right direction.
Question: I wonder, how do you influence others with your words? Or, what words of affirmation or encouragement do you use on others?
