4 Simple Steps To Lead Your Family with Vision - Successfully |
After getting home from her appointment, my friend tells me that she decided to go upstairs to her office. But before hitting the workload, she decided to fix herself a bowl of ice cream - topped with bananas, chocolate syrup, chopped honey roasted peanuts and a mountain of whipped cream. With the ice cream on one hand and a glass of water on the other she marched towards her mission. That was when her peripheral vision caught a dark long thing on the left side of the staircase. Walking by it just inches away from her was the center section of an “evil” snake! “I’ve seen enough snakes while jogging that I knew what it was instantly. I sprinted up the rest of the stairs much faster than I have ever run on any trail… Now I was really in a mess, because I had to keep an eye on that snake but also needed help." With locked doors, no cell phone in hand, and no one else in the house she had a decision to make. She managed to find the almost dead cordless phone and proceeded to call her husband at work - only to get his voice mail. "By this time, the snake had apparently gotten his own wits about him and continued his trip down the stairs. Horrifyingly he wound down the right side of the steps and disappeared into the stuff stored there, which included a queen sized blanket. I kept watching until his head finally peeked back out at the base of the steps and he seemed to be trying to make a decision: bedroom or living room?" To make a long story short before I get to the 6 Things To Do When Dealing With An "Evil Snake" In Your House, she managed to get the front door opened and call her next door neighbor who told her she'd come over to help. 6 Things To Do When Dealing With An "Evil Snake" In Your House - Click to Tweet 4. You might need to call for help – people love to feel useful. Sometimes we tend to take matters into our own hands not wanting to bother others with our problems. The fact is we must reach out to somebody to help us fight our own battles in order to win successfully. You are not an island unto yourself. You need someone's help - even if it's just to stay on the phone with you while you yell at that devil to "get out." Sometimes, moral support is all we need. Besides, people love to help – especially when they’re retired. Consider those nearby who may want to feel useful. 5. You must take authority. I can talk about this for a long time. Funny thing is, I was probably one of those people whom my friend learned from to "take authority" over things by exercising your God-given authority. I'm so glad that her kingdom authority kicked into gear and she commanded the snake to get out. By this time she had called her neighbor, gotten a gun and called 911, while mourning over the loss of her melting ice cream. It wasn’t funny then, but some things hit me funny. I can just picture her, with phone in one hand, gun on the other, speaking to a snake with authority; opened door, rescue squad in the scene, while standing on a chair with ice cream in mind. Now that’s a sight to behold! Seriously, though, the moment she spoke to it, out the door the snake went. Remember, when you take authority "over stuff" and speak to it (in the name of Jesus) instead of speaking about it, it has to obey. (Mark 11:1-24) 6. Celebrate and share your victory. I’m sure her victory made that 4’11” lady feel like a 10ft giant. She can handle snakes now! Well, not literally, but you get my point. She celebrated with her neighbor and she now tells others about it with much action, excitement, victory and yes - humor. I'm sure the rescue squad was very much impressed and celebrated the bravery of a little lady facing a six foot snake in the house. When facing various fearful-fiery trials, don't let them overcome you, face them head on and celebrate God’s victory in your life. Lisa Bavere once said: "when you face your fears, you become fearless." Once that evil snake leaves your house, you must deal with its actions so he never comes back again. Don't let those pesky (spiritual) evil snakes intimidate you. Exercise your God-given authority and wisely get them out of your house. Be sure to never let them come back in again. Keep your eyes open for those moments when an “evil snake” might just be around the corner - in fact, you may just walk right by it. Be sure to walk in your God-given authority and you might just be able to rebuke it and watch them go out the door while joyfully enjoying a mountain of ice cream. The victory is yours! Question: How else have you dealt with trials in your life, other than the obvious of praying about it? How did you handle it? Help make this post better - share your comment below. When facing various fearful-fiery trials, don't let them overcome you, face them head on and celebrate God’s victory in your life. Prioritizing your moment of decision can determine the outcome of your victory "Funny thing is, right before I called her I remembered decades of sermons and Bible studies I had heard about "taking authority" over stuff, so I had said aloud to the snake…, "I don't know why you're in my house, but in the name of Jesus Christ I command you to leave."”
“So here I am, talking to my neighbor on the phone… for what seems like ages, the snake finally works its way around the door and over the threshold with me following at a safe distance, waiting until the last piece of the tail clears the door so I can shut it." I love real life stories and experiences, but a snake-in-my-house kind of story is not the experience I’d ever want to share. Truth is we all have experienced "evil" snakes in our homes. That snake the Bible refers to as “Satan.” Sometimes he shows up in ways that we don't expect him. So here are the 6 Things To Do When Dealing With An Evil Snake In Your House learned from my friend’s true story. 1. Temptation often comes by surprise. Just as she walks by the snake unnoticed until her peripheral vision caught the fearless beast, so do we when we’re minding our own business and something catches our eyes that completely distracts us from our mission, tempting to destroy our destiny. Attacks come by surprise. 2. Keep your spiritual eyesight alert. Though her heroic husband was at work, my friend still decided to keep an eye on the snake and not lose sight of it. You always want to keep an eye on those demonic distractions, like your kids' misleading friends, an illness, or bad/negative and defeated thoughts that often show up by surprise. Keep a close eye on them. You want to make sure of its purpose and be ready for your next move. My friend's next move was to get the snake out the door. Your goal is to get the destructive distractions out of your life. 3. Sometimes you need to re-prioritize. Forget about the non-essentials even if they are dear to your heart, in order to concentrate on what's most important. In other words, prioritize your moment. You'd be surprised how many people miss this point. Prioritizing your moment of decision can determine the outcome of your victory. The ice cream had to wait until later. Later the ice cream wound up – yes, you guessed it, in the garbage. But the victory was won! No ice cream, but no snake either!
