Contrary to popular belief in this 21st century, Hallmark did not invent Mother’s Day. God had the jump on them from the book of Genesis. There is a blessing in being privileged to be called: “Mom.”
To give birth to a child, to adopt a child, or to be a step-parent to a child is a huge gift and responsibility from God. As a Mother you have the opportunity and position to pour the truth of God’s Word into a child. As that child grows and receives the truth of God’s Word and lives it out in their everyday lives, that child will reach people that the Mother will never meet. This is just another way that the Gospel of Jesus Christ is spread throughout the earth – by the love, prayers and commitment of a Mother.
The position never diminishes
Moms become Grandmas and Great-Grandmas – the importance of the position never diminishes. No matter what your age or place in life, you still have the opportunity to pour the truth of God’s Word, values and worth into your children and grandchildren – no matter what their age may be.
In the world we live in today, the position of a mother is viewed as a 2nd choice or a less important position. When I left my teaching career, I was told that I was making a mistake that I would regret. People told me that I would regret having more than one child.
Due to my pregnancies being a bit on the difficult side and knowing that I would probably have a C-section – people discouraged me from having more children. But, God planted a seed in my heart before we had children – that He had called us to have four children.
The calling was placed on my life to be a Mother to four blessings. To this day, I am thankful I said "YES" to the Lord.
Pouring The Word of God in the womb
The four blessings God gave me I have poured the Word of God into them even while they were in the womb. (Here’s a good article about this here). Now those four blessings are growing up and have already shared the truth of God’s Word with people that I will never meet. They have sowed seeds of the Gospel into people’s lives.
Mothers have a great part in spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I encourage each Mother to pour into each of your children – no matter what their age – the truth of Jesus Christ. You may not think they are listening – but they are watching.
Stay faithful to the calling
Stay faithful to the calling of Motherhood – pray, intercede, love and share the Gospel to your children through your words and through your life. Motherhood is a special calling I’m glad I said YES to.
